consumption of internet
In January 2022 india ranked second just behind China with a whooping internet consumption of 658 million users with monthly average of 19.5 giga bytes.
After opening the doors of mobile network for private players india has shown a sharp rise in internet consumers and a sudden boom after 2018 when reliance jio entered the market.
The basic problem lies in the usage pattern of Indian consumers because mostly futile content is consumed whereas other countries are utilizing internet as a tool in education, skill enhancement, marketing and learning.
Indian consumers consume 80% of internet in visual videos available on different platforms such as tiktok,YouTube and Instagram and trend of short videos is astonishingly surprising. Rest of users are mostly consuming social media contrasting to Chinese civilians which consumes almost 70% internet for productive tasks such as learning SEO,reading algorithms, learning new skills to meet global employment benchmarks.
Internet could be a path breaker in employment and learning sectors but if the concerned authorities show thier intrest in creating awareness amongst the youngsters, explaining them how to utilize internet and become techskilled.
For this the information and technological department needs a massive reform so it could target the audience and serves it purpose ,also schooling patterns must include introduction of internet and its productive reach.
